Rik believes in enjoying your Aikido whilst making it adaptable to meet any hostile situation outside the dojo. Rik is working on the transference of Aikido techniques into MMA.Whilst most Aikidoka are happy to live the lie with their aiki ribbons comedy stylised dojo choreographed Aikido. without learning the need to adapt.

Aikido in MMA Transference Techniques

It is my intention in early 2012 to make a video in the cage of the Aikido techniques that I consider transferable to MMA.I want to show how Aikido can be adapted for MMA and the street when needed.
I will not be floating around the universe or wearing a Hakama. I certainly will not be waving those coloured Aiki ribbons around.~ I really would like to do some of those fancy `no touch` throws, my problem is, I don't have any students that are gullible enough to fly around the dojo at the wave of a finger...
This year I am determined to visit as many dojos as possible to see how these magic techniques work, should be fun...

Whilst I am now predominently MMA - I am still very respectful of my fathers Traditional Aikido. I have no respect for the clowns that bring Aikido in to disrepute with their comedy Aikido.

Ki Projection and a life in diapers

From Aikido Today Magazine - " I was working as a carpenter in a large house with a double staircase. The homeowners little boy looked as if he was going to fall down the stairs, I could not reach him in time, so I shouted projecting my Ki straight through the little boys head, the child fell down crying - the childs mother asked what had happened ? I explained !!!!. She replied " Thank you "- I replied " Don't thank me - thank Aikido" . That poor kid probably ended up as daft as the carpenter, that child may well now be an adult wearing diapers..
